Event editorial support
Practical editorial support for competitions where the content operation needs to work as well as the event itself.
Major events generate a lot of words, interviews, results, requests and last-minute changes. Good editorial planning makes the difference between a newsroom that is constantly reacting and one that knows what it is trying to achieve.
I can help event organisers, federations and communications teams plan and deliver editorial coverage before, during and after a competition.
That can mean developing the coverage plan, helping define roles and workflows, supporting writers and editors on site, or providing an experienced pair of hands when the pressure rises.
I have worked at more than 40 global athletics championships and across a wide range of international events. That experience has involved far more than simply reporting races: coordinating coverage, editing under deadline pressure, working with photographers and media teams, responding to unexpected stories and making sure the important material actually reaches the audience.
Support can be scaled to the event. It might be a short piece of pre-event planning, hands-on editorial work during competition, or a broader newsroom structure involving staff, freelancers or student writers.
What I can help with
- Editorial coverage plans
- Newsroom workflows and responsibilities
- Event previews, reports and features
- On-site editing and quality control
- Interview and mixed-zone content
- Writer briefing and coordination
- Student newsroom programmes
- Post-event editorial review
The aim isn’t to create more content for the sake of it. It’s to make sure the right content gets produced, by the right people, at the right time.
