I’m sure I’m not the only person who, after watching 2007 film The Bucket List, began to think of things they’d like to do before they die.

Like Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman in that film, I’d love to go skydiving, visit the Taj Mahal and fly over the North Pole. But before I do those trivial things, there’s the far more important matter of attending various athletics meetings around the world.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have already been to many of the competitions that make up my ‘athletics bucket list’, but if ever I win the lottery, I’d love to travel the world and tick off all the remaining meetings on my list.

The below list is roughly in order of importance. I’ll probably add to it (and update it) as time goes on, but for now, this is it. Feel free to post a comment below with your athletics bucket lists.

You got the top three done so what more do you need? 😉 You have been to the London Marathon haven’t you?

I would love to go to an Olympics, another WC, Zurich and Gotzis.

I have been to the Pre-meet, the US trials (bar none the best meet I have ever been to) and the CWG here in Victoria. Last big meet though was 4 years ago. 🙁

And I have a feeling you are going to get to almost every one of those meets. (maybe not the NCAAS).

Interesting list, thank you for that. Like´d to join you on your white spots certainly – but there is one event missing. The annual match between Finland & Sweden is a classic that every enthusiasist should see, I´ve been there, I know. I believe you can´t find that atmosphere anywhere else. The Finns love to hate the Swedes and vice versa so no one asks for mercy because it wouldn´t be given any way.

The match is usually kept in late August or early September like this year in Stockholm. It´s every other year in Finland and Helsinki Olympic Stadium (the home of the last real Olympics, you know) is the place to experiance it with tens of thousands of Finns and few thousand Swedes.

    sincerely Ari Nurkkala
